Ian is a proud Brummie and is a keen a supporter of a number of community based initiatives. In 2011 he was honoured to be asked to be the digital face of the incredible new Library of Birmingham project which was opened to the public in September 2013 by Malala Yousafzai.
He loves working with young people and believes in giving them genuine development opportunities; has been a "Dragon" as part of The Challenge Network summer programme offering groups of teenagers advice and support on local campaigns and has also provided advice and guidance to participants on Project SoundLounge.
He is the dedicated Chair, and a Conductor, of The New Streetly Youth Orchestra and founded the Sutton Coldfield Arts Forum in partnership with Birmingham City Council and DanceXchange to forge closer working relationships between local artists and arts based organisations.
One of his favourite days of the year takes place every November when the people across the UK unite to raise money for the BBC Children in Need appeal. Ian is proud to have been involved in the production of the BBC Midlands appeal show every year since 1999.
He has produced and directed the Made in Sutton Variety Show at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall raising in excess of £1,300 for local charities and in September 2013 he was named "Most Inspirational Person" in the Sutton Coldfield Local Community Awards.
In July 2016 he was appointed as a Community Governor of Bishop Vesey's Grammar School and is enjoying the opportunity to work with the leadership of the school to support the education of the next generation.
